People who grew up in states where it was legal to drink alcohol before the age of 21 are more likely to be binge drinkers later in life. School of Medicine researchers found that people who lived in states with lower minimum drinking ages were more likely to drink heavily, though not to drink more frequently.

Tracy Collins, who earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature from WUSTL, returns to his alma mater after 20 years at the Creative Producers Group, a St. Louis-based agency. As WUSTL’s first senior creative director, Collins will help communicate the university’s brand through words and imagery.

Every Tuesday, an undergraduate from WUSTL’s School of Engineering & Applied Science heads back to middle school. Nick Okafor (right) leads the after-school Young Engineers Club at Brittany Woods Middle School in University City. The club started last fall as a way to reach out to middle school students from groups underrepresented in the science, technology, engineering and math fields.

The School of Medicine is offering “Freedom From Smoking” classes, beginning Tuesday, Feb. 19. The one-hour classes are free and open to anyone on a first-come, first-served basis. Those interested must register by Friday, Feb. 15.
